Who is Stewart-Matheny Farm?

Our farm is owned by the Stewart-Matheny Family.  The private family farm dates to 1790 when the home was first built.  History has a way of sneaking up on folks around here.

In 2007, S-M Farm woke up from a long sleep and soon thereafter began occasionally opening the gate to friends, family and fans of local artists who would gather voluntarily to camp, socialize and listen to live music enjoyed by SoundQuilt and Cecilfest enthusiasts.  Once, sometimes twice, every year the farm hosts an informal gathering.  Ordinarily the farm does not allow trespassing or unnannouced visitors and so these times are special.

The farm is just 36 acres, but is surrounded by Virginia country-side that remains much unchanged over the last few centuries.  Stewart-Matheny Farm gardens, raises chickens, supports wildlife and maintains a refuge for many sorts of beneficial plants and animals.  Once cleared for production of hay, now the pasture is returning to forest, a good thing for everybody.

Have a happy, peaceful day and thank you for visting.
